Here are my Specs:
Asus Maximus IV Gene Motherboard
Stock Intel I5-2390T CPU, my new one Intel I7-3770K
8GBs Ram
I also purchased a 250 GB Samsung SSD

I know my way around computers, at least enough to upgrade them. I purchased a new Intel I7-3770k for its obvious performance boost over my stock cpu. I installed the I7 with the T4 Coolmaster heat sink with fan. The issue I ran into started when I did not have the bracket that clips down the cpu to the mobo installed. I simply had the heat sink holding the cpu down. I was able to boot up the system just fine, ran the bios to configure with the new cpu and installed my Samsung SSD software. I then realize I forgot to plug the Sata connector to the ssd and when I moved the computer the computer shut off. I realized this was due to the CPU not being seated and kept in place. I then took everything out and put the clip thing back in along with the T4 heatsink. However after I hooked everything back up the mono gave me a "00" error code and the CPU led light was lit. I do not hear any post beeps now. And according to my mobo manuel "00" 'is not used'. So when I attempt to put the 2390T back in now I receive an error "55" code that the manuel says is a memory issue. I have pulled out and reseated my ram to no avail.

I am positive the cpu is getting power as I have checked the connection and the cpu gets hot. I am at a loss and am extremely irritated at the entire thing, as it should not of taken me more than an hour to do this project and its going on into my entire evening. Please someone assist me. I have gone through the steps, checked my connections to everything and I cannot seem to find out what is wrong.

Okay, so
1) Did you make site your CPU is made for the same socket as your old one?
2) Did you pull down the lever all the way when putting the CPU in place so it got locked in tight?
3) Is the 4-pin or 8-pin CPU power supply plug fully plugged in all the way?
4) Did you bend any of those little golden flaps underneath the CPU on the motherboard by either putting the CPU in the wrong way or dropping something on them?

I suppose that cooking something was a possibility. However I tried some of the tricks in a sticky here and removed a ram stick when I had the 2390T installed. And I got it to boot. So it cannot be the mother board. How would I be able to tell if I did something to the cpu? I don't understand how I could of done anything wrong to it. In regards to the first response, a second CPU working in that slot basically rules out any other issues.

I am not sure where everyone went, but by trouble shooting I think the 3770k somehow got bricked. I have no idea how it happened, and after examining the entire processor body there is nothing aesthetically wrong with it at all. It worked for a little and now it doesn't. I have completely rebooted and cleared cmos and I think I will try after doing this to see if it will work. Otherwise I will be taking this back to Micro Center. I am still open to any ideas or offers of issues that could of cause the cpu to fail. Thanks!
