Today I purchased the Samsung UN55HU8550 4k 3D TV. Love the TV and the picture I get, both 1080p upscaled & 4K netflix video are amazing. I understand that the TV supports HDMI 2.0 which can support a 4K 60hz signal.

To my surprise, I hooked up my PC equipped with a GTX 780ti GPU and Haswell i7 CPU. To my amazement, I am able to output a 4k signal @ 60hz from my PC via HDMI. How could this be? I was under the understanding that HDMI 1.4 output (GTX 780ti) can only carry a 4k 30hz signal due to insufficient bandwidth.

Somehow, I'm playing BF4 on ultra (AA off) at over 60fps using 4k resolution. While I'm very happy with this, how can this be? It doesn't make sense, and it's making me think I'm not really getting 4k gameplay. Although, the quality of the graphics/resolution is amazing.

Any input would be appreciated.

I could very well be wrong, but just because your GFX card is putting out 60fps, doesn't necessarily mean the tv or cable etc are passing that along.

If I turn down the settings I get hundreds of FPS in games on FRAPS, even though my monitor is only 60Hz.

Yeah, if you're reading it from fraps its not accurate, does it show up as 60 in the nvidia control panel?

No, I am actually pushing 3840x2160 @ 59hz in the NVIDIA control panel. "IN GAME" w/ the BF4 settings set to 3840x2160 @ 59hz using console command "perfoverlay.drawfps 1" my GTX 780ti is putting down and average of 70fps with game setting on Ultra (AA OFF).

After doing some further research, I figured out that NVIDIA has devised a way of downgrading the 4k signal to push it through the HDMI 1.4 line @ 60hz. Not sure if this is some kind of a marketing gimmick, but the signal is INDEED pushing 60hz over HDMI 1.4

Hmmm. Never seen that before, if it's a true 60hz being pushed, and not like you said a marketing gimmick, that's really cool.

I have a output of 60hz as well. after the update two days ago. I was kinda shocked at first. I thought I made a mistake at first. I double checked the refresh rate at NVidia panel,. it is 60hz.
