I'm using the Maximus VII motherboard, and it seems to me the spacing between the two main PCI-e slots are...very short.
Like putting in a second card would have the top's fans right behind the second's PCB board.
Does the top card really need a little space, or...

Current mobo have good quite good spacing between the first and second card (dual slot card). In the past the card will be sandwich together because of PCI-E slot arrangements. For triple slot card that making multi GPU configuration impossible.

Well, normally the HDD cage has 2 fans blowing air from outside into the HDD bay and out into the GPU area, but I've currently set it up to blow sideways, since the HDD cage is facing the side of the case.
Should I have the fans blow onto the GPUs?

What case are you using? also whats the full setup look like? as in if they are blowing in from the outside is it from the side or front of the case? what about exhaust? I had a tower case with 1 exhaust in rear and 2 exhaust for a radiator up top, 2 intake on front, and 2 1 intake on the side blowing straight on 2 cards in crossfire, never had any trouble. then i switched cases and i have 2 blowing air in, 1 out, and the same radiator setup up top, no side fan (avatar pic) however there is no restriction so my temps actually dropped. post a pic if you can.
