UPDATE: Forgot to mention that the blue screen error lists the following under technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000050
*** win32k.sys

Hi all,

Having problems with my home-built Windows 7 PC. Can't get past startup screen, getting a blue screen every time that says "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

Build: MSI P67A-G43 MoBo
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
2 x 4GB Gskill DDR3 1333 MHz
Radeon 6950 XFX
CRUCIAL 64G SSD - Windows 7 installed on here
Samsung 2T HDD

Back story: I did a re-install in-place a few months back because I had a problem with a missing .dll file (sorry, don't remember the name). It seemed to do the trick. Last Thursday I downloaded about 13 windows updates through their automated system, installed them, and shut down. After a weekend away, I'm encountering the error above. Based on what I've read, I'm wondering if it might be a problem caused by the windows updates. No other recent driver changes that I'm aware of. Other possible candidates seem to be faulty RAM or HDD.

Here's what I've tried thus far:
Ran the automated Windows System Repair when prompted before startup, and ran it when booting from a windows install CD. Both times I got a message saying Windows could not repair the problem. Note that my windows install disk is actually a Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade disk (don't ask why my University gave this to me).

Tried starting in Safe Mode, no dice.

Tried running from the Last Known Good Configuration, same problem.

Ran chkdsk, no errors found.

No system Restore Points were found, so I couldn't go back to one, even though I remember making one after the recent re-install.

Checked that BIOS boot order was correct - yup

Ran BIOS memory test - no errors found

Removed both sticks of RAM. Tested each separately in each slot, got the BSOD every time.

Checked connection to HDD and SSD, seems fine.

Ran MemTest86 from DVD, 3 passes, no errors found.

So now I'm pretty much all out of ideas. I guess could try to re-install windows, or reformat my drives, but I'd prefer to ask for the divine wisdom of the board first.

Thanks!
MP

Solution
FIXED: Had to delete c:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT

Looks like this was a problem caused by a recent batch of Windows Updates, as suspected.

What I did to fix it:
Ran Windows Repair module when prompted on restart after BSOD.
Selected Advanced Options when automatic repair failed.
Selected command line.
Entered "del FNTCACHE.DAT" (without quotes. I was automatically placed in the System32 folder, so no need to change directory)
Restarted, Windows started up successfully.

All the thanks and praise to korkow from his thread here:

Which led to the solution posted here (summarized above)...
