Get 24GB of Ram with mixing packages

Hi All!

I'm currently thinking of upgrading the Ram to 24 GB.

Currently What I have is a 8GB Sniper kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416

My mother board is http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8B75M/
I've coupled it with i5 3470 @3.2Ghz

What I'm looking to add to is 16GB (8GBX2) into my next slots

Will they work fine?

1) Can I use XMP individually for each channel?

2) Will both of them work at 1600MHz?

Basically it's a crapshoot, any time you mix DRAM it may be and often is problematic... Regardless getting the 2x8GB is a good move then can try adding the old, if any problems, give me a shout, might well be able to get them to play with voltage/timing adjustments.
