Frustrated with Asus and the M.2 SSD

I have been putting together a high end gaming rig for about a month now. I had purchased nearly everything but now I may have to rework the plan. I had decided on the Asus Maximus Hero VII motherboard but honestly, I liked many of their boards and they have a lot of the features I was looking for. One inparticular is this M.2 SSD option that I believe almost every Asus board offered. I loved the idea of an ultra fast SSD to boot from and I found nothing that could compare to its speed. Here is the problem. I can't find it available anywhere? Most of the Asus information centered around a particular M.2 PCIE SSD they had used for testing; the Samsung XP941. I cannot find this SSD anywhere nor have I found a compatibility list of PCIE 2.8 2280 form factor SSDs that will work on the board.
What is so frustrating is that if Asus (and frankly other distributors as well) is going to push this technology as the next great thing, then how about partnering with manufacturers to make sure that the product is available? It was painful enough that the price was supposed to be something like $600 for a 500GB SSD but with no availability either...... I with I had not even seen the option now, lol. I guess for $600, I can probably but a large SATA SSD.

The Samsung XP941 is an OEM only model. Samsung has numerous contract to supply pc companies like Dell, Lenovo, Sony, Apple, and others. The XP941 was never intended for retail sales. However, Samsung has made them available as replacements. Currently you can purchase one from Ram City:

http://www.ramcity.com.au/buy/samsung-xp941-512gb-m.2-ngff-pcie-ssd-2280/MZHPU512HCGL-00000

The vendor is located in Australia but ships world wide. The prices shown are Australian dollars. The price in US Dollars will actually be a little bit lower. You'll also notice that the XP941 is very expensive.

NOTA BENE - This is important. The Samsung XP941uses 4 PCIE channels as in "PCIe 2.0 x4" to transmit and receive data. As of last month there was only...

I get that this is probably a whiny post and really it shouldn't be that big of a deal. It's probably my OCD more than anything that once I get started on something or want something bad enough, I can't shake it. In any case, I found an alternative to the Samsung. It is still very expensive but a company called Plextor makes a M.2 form factor SSD card as well. Bought the M6e PX-G512M6e for $420. That bought me a 512GB plug in PCIe card from NewEgg. I post in hopes that maybe I can help someone else out who will inevitably have the same issue at some point.

As of last month there was only one motherboard available that could properly support the drive. Just about every motherboard with an M.2 header is only PCIe 2.0 x2. Unfortunately Asus does not provide that information on their web site. You might have to purchase a PCIe 3.0 x16 to NGFF/M.2 adapter.
