I am putting together a $1,300 Gaming build. All of the parts are compatable, but when I put the computer together outside of the case, I got no output. However, without the 770 I got output. Is my card defective? My monitor is wired to the motherboard with a VGA Cable.

The 770 may have come with a DVI-to-VGA adapter, and if not you can purchase one for a few dollars from, I imagine, most electronics stores. You'll need to plug it into a DVI-I port as DVI-D does not carry an analog signal.

The monitor cable needs to be attached to the GTX 770, not the motherboard. The motherboard's VGA output is for your CPU's onboard video which most motherboards automatically disable when a discrete video card is installed.

If I can offer an opinion, if you're spending $1300 on a gaming build, you probably should find at least $150 for a cheap, low-end 1080p monitor at a bare minimum. If your monitor is old enough to have only a VGA input, chances are its resolution is low enough that the power of a GTX 770 isn't really justified.
