z87 compatible ram for z97?

I currently have this G.skill RipjawsX 8GB (4GBX2) DDR3 2133/ F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM. It says it only supports z87 boards. Can i still use it on z97? Im planning on expanding to 16gb

Yes, it does. I'm using a z97 board with memory I've used on a z68 board from an old system.

Yes 297 is backwards compatible with DDR3. I believe it also supports DDR4 as well, which is not mainstream yet, although offers a lot of advantages. It might be worth saving for unless you really need 16gb right now.

That would be the upcoming X99 which supports DDR4, Z97 usually supports up to around DDR3 3300, depending on the board.

i doubt that it will support ddr4. just like ddr2 was not compatible with ddr3, they both have a different set of pins.

Right, all current DDR3 modules can be used in any DDR3 motherboard. Of course the maximum DRAM Frequency depends on the CPU or motherboard.

For DDR4, the X99 chipset will be the first to support it, which will be released in the upcoming days.

To take a look or get a head start, you can buy RAM first! :)
