I am switching my FX-8350 cpu to Intel's i5 4670k and with it a compatible motherboard (Asus Z87-A). My brother built this computer for me because I'm pretty clueless when it comes to hardware. Biggest thing i've done myself was replace a dead cpu fan. But I do have an understanding of what goes where and stuff. i've just never done it myself.
so without exaggeration i've spent maybe 3 hours of today googling around for guides and checking youtube for videos, but i'm still feeling unsure of what I need to do so I'm asking you guys. I hope I dont sound too needy but here goes..
I will get the new MB and CPU this week so what can I do to prepare for their installation? This computer is brand new and all Ive installed are a couple of games and Skype, so I dont feel bad about having to reformat windows. However in doing so will I lose things such as music and pictures, too? ...how do I reformat? (-- noob question right there but i've always had my brother do this for me. Now im actually studying computer business so I figured its time for me to learn on my own lol).
And how hard is the actual uninstallation of old MB and then putting in the new one? how much am I risking breaking something since I'm not all that experienced? Does the new CPU come with thermal paste?
Sorry for all these questions (and for the long post!!). But Im hoping that since the Motherboard is a rather important component that requires I take out multiple other parts too, it will be a great learning process for me and I will be a step closer to one day replying to threads like these myself
If there are other general tips you could give me I would be so happy! thank you!
