4pin ATX 12v

I made the mistake of assuming my power supply had a 4pin ATX 12v that my new motherboard requires. The 6pin PCIe power connector fits, but I'm not sure that's safe.
I'd really not want to have to wait three weeks for this adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812816222
I should definitely not try the 6pin, correct?

What is your PSU? If it lacks a 4pin connector its obviously not meant to power what you are trying, and its extremely low quality.
You should always avoid adapters like that, especially for motherboard connections.

My recommendation, get a new PSU.

Ah yes, thermaltake...
Either way that PSU should have the 4 pin cable you need, unless it was lost.

I read the specs before the picture loaded, which claimed it was modular.
I would recommend replacing the PSU even if it had the cable.

Thermaltake is known for being low end. I sadly am using their product as an emergency backup I had to pick up while at E3.
