Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my 3.5 year old Radeon HD 5770 1GB video card.
I only play single-player games, mostly FPS like Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, etc.
Using a single 1920x1200 monitor, 28" Hanns-G.
With my aging computer, should I just get an R9 270X or pay the extra for an R9 280?
Money's not really the issue, I just don't want to bother getting more card than I need. Would a 280 or 280X just be overkill, or worth the extra money?

Intel i7 950 (4x 3.06GHz)
6GB (3x 2GB DDR3-1600)
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R w/ 4x PCI-E 2.0 x16
700 watt power supply

Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My R9 270X vapor-x OC at 1200 MHz gives me only playable FPS for Far Cry 3 at ultra preset. i would recommend The R9 280. Also, the 3 GB VRAM will allow you playing any future games in 1080P. Some games uses so much rendering layer, they use more than 2 GB or VRAM.

I would like to play most modern shooters at high/ultra settings, if possible. Sounds like the 270X doesn't have enough juice.
Next question - would the R9 280 be adequate, or do I need to shell out extra for the R9 280X? Just wondering if my old rig and mobo could even utilize all that horsepower. I'd like to keep it around for a couple more years before doing a completely new build.
Also, are ASUS and Sapphire the highest rated brands when it comes to the R9 280 range of cards?
Thanks again!
