I have decided to get a new PC, and due to my budget and priorities i have looked at theese parts

Intel i7-4790K CPU
MSI Z89-G45 Gaming Motherboard
Corsair Vengence 2x8 GB DDR3 Ram
and a Intel GTX770 based Gfx card
All put in a Zalman Z9 plus case

My question comes in regards to the cooling aspect.

I have long wished to try out overclocking, and have chosen the above components based on their abilities in that area, but this will be my first time with overclocking, and i have much to learn.

I have been looking on the Cooling aspect of it all. Currently i am torn between the Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3 tower heatsink and the Corsair Hydro 100i.

Based on the test i have found, the 4790K chip has a tendency of getting quite hot, when overclocked, and the Hydro 100i seems to perform great for the cost.
However when looking at the different retailers available to me, they do not list it as having compatability with the LGA1150 socket, only older models.

I looked a bit on Corsairs website, and there they list it as compatible with 1150. Is there a risk that it is not compatible, or is the mounting brackets similar to the ones in f.eks. 1156 and 1155.

On top of that, i need a bit of expert advice in regards to if the Hydro 100i would even fit in a Zalman Z9 plus case with the other components.

It looks like the H100i doesn't fit too well. There isn't really any room for the fans and radiator. However, LGA 1155 and LGA 1150 use the same mounting bracket, so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues if it only lists LGA 1155.

Yeah seems that you are right.
However i have been pointed in the direction of the Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01 case.
This case can fit the Hydro 100i, but it only comes with a singe fan as standard.

Any idea on how many extra fans would be needed?

I'd probably just set it up as your radiator and radiator fans on the top acting as an exhaust. Have an additional two fans in the front as an intake and a single fan in the back as an exhaust. You can always expand on that a bit if you want to.

just sick the rad out the back of the case or just mod the case at bit by drilling a splot to push it threw or take aprt the h100 and used thes holes refill it and put it back together.

I ended up going a different route than first thought, i kept to the Zalman Z9 plus, but since i have not ever played with OC'ing, i could propably suffice with a heatsink, so went with a Noctua NH-U12S, will still give me a bit of overclock potential, and the existing fans in the z9 will do untill i can afford some better case fans.
Thank you all for the help :)

Noctua makes good stuff. It will definitely give you some overclocking headroom should you decide to overclock.
