I recently put together a computer. All the parts are new and purchased from Newegg. The problem I am facing is that it will shut down randomly without warning and then after a few seconds will turn on by itself without me ever touching it. This happens a lot when I use google chrome and I can recreate the shut down without fail every time I visit speedtest.net. This also happens once in awhile when I play a full screened game.

If I use internet explorer, I don't think the computer has ever shut down before, even when visiting speedtest.net. I am running a windows 8.1 professional. When I tried going to speedtest.net while I had a windows 7 home premium installed, I did not experience any shutdowns either.

What might be causing this issue? If you can help me that would be great! I am pretty new to computers and building them, so please try to break things down for me!

My computer parts are as follows:

CPU: Intel i7-4790K LGA1150
Mother Board: Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H
Graphics Card: EVGA GEForce GTX760
Power Supply: Corsair RM750
RAM: 1x Crucial Ballistix 8GB
HDD: Seagate 1T
SSD: Crucial 512GB
Liquid Cooler: Enermax Liqtech 240

Sometimes in a scenario like this the best thing to do is shut down the PC, remove all cables and completely re-seat all hardware, this means down to the CPU and re-seat that as well. I have had computers that randomly shutdown and after simply re-seating all hardware components they work just fine.

It's more likely a coincidence that using Chrome shuts the computer down or when visiting speedtest.net.

If re-seating all of your hardware doesn't solve the problem then my next step would be process of elemination; disconnect the data and power cables to your drives, this keeps the computer from booting to Windows, does it still shut down? If not then your issue is software related, probably the OS, or an issue with your drives. If it still shuts down, after you let it sit for a while, then your issue is most likely hardware related; video card, RAM, CPU, motherboard etc.

Thanks for the fast replies! Sorry this is my first time posting on any sort of forum so I apologize if I am doing this wrong

@azguard14: I tried removing everything and still the same problem occurs. I tried running my computer in safe mode with networking and still the same problem occurs. If I let the computer sit and do nothing with it, it doesn't shut down. Could this be a hardware issue? Perhaps a faulty PSU or motherboard?

Check your CPU temps like @plywrlw said, also, how many RAM sticks do you have? Try removing 1 at a time to see if that solves the issue. I actually had a customer a few weeks ago that his keyboard was causing his PC to lock up, once we kept the keyboard unplugged it was fine; he bought a new keyboard and the problem was solved. I think it's a hardware issue, it's just a question of which piece.
