Hi I'm very new to this so I'm just going to come out and ask. Just recently while playing borderlands 2 my computer crashes mid game and I don't understand why. When I minimized the game screen on my a pop up window appeared saying that my game crashed due to low video memory and I don't know what that means exactly. Please help :??:

These are my PC specs

Processor: AMD FX(tm)- 4130 Quad-Core Processor 3.80 GHz
GPU: MSI NVIDIA GTX 760
Memory: 16.0 GB (3.49 GB usable)
*NOTE: I have 2x 4GB corsair Vengeance and 1x 8GB corsair Vengeance installed. I don't know if this may cause problems, but I believe it should do fine.
OS: Windows 8.1(32bit)

Memory: 16.0 GB (3.49 GB usable) and OS: Windows 8.1(32bit) is your problem.

back up everything that you need to keep on your computer and reinstall windows 8.1 64bit. 32bit windows cannot address more than 3.5gb of ram, thats why it says 3.49gb usable, your filling up the system ram.

this will definitely solve the problem and you should be a boost in system performance as well.

if you bought this computer from a store, the windows key should either be on a sticker on the computer case, or somewhere in the booklets/cd packet that came with your computer. should have a windows 8.1 cd which will have both 32bit and 64bit versions on it.

In order for me to install 64bit version of windows do I have to purchase is it? Because to tell you the truth I got Windows 8.1 for free from my University.

so you downloaded win8 from their website? you should still be able to access that and just redownload. once you own a windows 8 key its yours. all you really need is that key. any windows 8 disk or iso image of the install will work fine for 32bit or 64bit as long as you have your key which is presumably locked to your motherboard.

you probably didnt know at the time but there were two versions of windows 8, 32bit and 64bit.

So what I need to do is re-download Windows 8 (64bit) from my University website and back up the important stuff on my computer? with no additional purchase needed? Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions like I said I'm a little new at this haha

yes, you should just be able to redownload windows from your university website, no purchase at all. just make sure you click on the 64bit version and not the 32bit version. and yes, back up anything that you need to save, pictures, music, video, documents, etc. and when given the option, you should let windows do a full clean reinstall and NOT let it keep any old files. again just be sure you securely save anything that is important to you on whatever external hard drive/large usb drive you choose. an external hard drive would be safer.
