Can i transfer my cpu to a new motherboard

I have an i5 which is fairly new its just less than a year old ... am building a pc and am not too sure if i can use it on a new motherboard(basically a new pc ) but i have a feeling i can.. is it possible ?

As long as the new board is the same socket as your old board then you're golden. If it's a 4th gen i5 then it's socket 1155, just be careful not to bend any socket pins on the old or new motherboard when you do the change.

im assuming if his i5 is less than a year old it is a haswell 1150 processor.

also, if its NOT an i5-4670k processor... note the 'k' at the end, you do not need a z97 motherboard. you could get by with a cheaper board. if it is a 'k' processor, you could also likely find a good deal on a z87 motherboard since most places should be pushing them out of stock now and z97 is mostly meant for the haswell refresh.

do you live near a microcenter?
