FX 6100 @ 4.0 vs FX 6300

I have a PC with a HD 7970, and FX 6100 it runs great but in some games the FX 6100 bottlenecks the HD 7970. So I would like to know if I can get the same performance of a FX 6300 by overclocking my FX 6100 to 4.0.

You will not get as much bottlenecking or maybe non, but please make sure you have a very good cooling system going on or you may fry your cpu and even damage other components around it.

but of course nothing old can compete with something new.

I was unsure because I heard something about the FX 6100 not using its cores effectively. I have noticed in some games in only using core 1, 3, and 5.

It depends on the game really and all FX's have slight differences, don't worry, unless you have the cash to buy a new CPU then go for it but in this case just overclock that beast up but have a good cooling system first.
