Computer Shuts Down Randomly (Doubt that it's overheating)

So a year ago I started having a problem where the PC would shut down even when it was idle. Somehow I had to repeatedly unplug plug the motherboard main current plug and turn off and on the power switch until it booted completely. What I mean is it would start the PC anyways but the fan on the CPU wouldn't until I did that gimmick over and over.

I changed the PSU once. Problem disappeared for months after that. Then it started again. This time I changed the heatsink for my CPU guessing it was just overheating because temps went ridiculously high. Temps dropped 20 cel. Reformated, temps dropped even more. This fixed the problem for another 2 months and now here we go again. (Temps haven't climbed but the PC shuts down again randomly)

It keeps shutting off randomly. And the reason I can't say it's overheating is it's because this happens when it's idle. I'll leave and come back and the pc is off or on but with CPU fan not working so basically nothing booting really.

I'm sick and tired of this happening. I have a case with a PSU that's on the floor. Can static cause this? What process of elimination should I go about. Because I find it odd that everything I changed fixed it for a duration of a few months until it started shutting off randomly again on a daily to bi-weekly basis.

Solution
It sounds like it could be a possible shortage. Where? No idea. Could be how your motherboard is mounted on your standoffs, the motherboard making contact with the case is a big no-no, and a slight nudge can do it sometimes, a screw could have been left underneath the motherboard, transferring the electric current from the case to the motherboard. It could be anything, anywhere. P1 and P4 power connections to your motherboard and PSU (if modular) are also someplace to look, if not completely connected all the way, sometimes it can shut off randomly - I have had that problem happen with the P4 power connector not being fastened tightly, I just so happened to stumble across it doing a case-inspection trying to resolve the problem.

I just have a hard time understanding why first changing the PSU, and later the HeatSink for the CPU, fixed the issue for a good couple of months. If the problem was constant i'd be inclined to look into what you say but in this case I'm really confused.
