Bootable programs for reformating HDDs

Hello, got this old HDD that is riddled with virus's and I was wondering what programs would you guys recommend to reformat and wipe it outside of windows via bootable cd/dvd I heard Gparted is good?

I use acronis true image and acronis disk director. True image allows the making of bootable disks with both apps on the disk. Options to secure erase and format in various formats.

Are these free? And if so may I have links. The HDD in question is a seagate barracuda drive. NVM just gonna
use Dban
