I want to build a system that will crush Archeage when it comes out and be good for the next 3-5 years.

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: End of September/Early October

Budget Range: $800-$1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Only building for gaming, I don't really do much else besides online stuff

Are you buying a monitor: No I currently have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236112

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I have a microcenter near me and sites I prefer are Newegg and Amazon

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Parts Preferences:
1. I was considering getting one of the cpu/mobo bundles from microcenter - specifically Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.aspx?sku=302356), so whatever mobo that I can bundle with that is appreciated.
2. For video card - at least a GTX 760 or R9 280/X or 290 if I can afford it.

Overclocking: Maybe - this will be my first build, so not looking to go crazy

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe in the future, but don't bend over backwards to make that work

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I realize this could be similar to the "mainstream/enthusiast build", but I'm guessing you can squeeze some more out of it if I'm able to do the microcenter deals?

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I currently only have a laptop, but it's 3 years old and I'm looking for a gaming rig that will last me a while.

Additional Question - if I waited till some black friday sales around Thanksgiving to buy everything, how much do you think I could save?

Thanks!

I can answer to the Black Friday bit. This is not a suggested build.

I got my i7 4770k for 270 bucks on Black Friday (Well Cyber Monday) sales. I also got my haf 932 advanced case for 89 bucks with Black Friday newegg coupons. I got my G.skill blue ram for 50 bucks. I also got my 3 TB 7200 RPM HDD in December for a Christmas sale for 120 bucks this past winter. I got my XFX 850w 80+ Gold PSU for 102 dollars on Black Friday as well. And last but not least, I am pretty sure I paid like 69 bucks for Windows 8.1.

Here's the current prices for my stuff that I got around then:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($319.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($124.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($87.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Toshiba 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($109.99 @ Best Buy)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue ATX Full Tower Case ($152.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($134.99 @ NCIX US)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1020.91
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Alltogether I paid right around 700 bucks for all of my stuff. I cannot garantee that your items will go on sale, but as usual, I would assume most mainstream items will see some healthy price drops from November through December. Those are the months when companies push for their biggest numbers because of year ending sales records and whatnot.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info on that gizzard! So sounds like I could save $100-300 total on the items, but I'd have to wait a bit longer than I may want. However, Archeage still doesn't have a release date, so waiting till Nov/Dec may not be a huge deal.

i7 I don't need an OS or optical drive. Can that $100 go towards upgrading something?
