I have a 600 VA (max. output 360 W ) line interactive UPS with over load protection. I am using a AMD FX-6300 processor and Sapphire R9 270X gpu. When I run my PC for normal tasks the UPS backup kicks in perfectly if there is a power cut. But if the power cut happens during gaming (NFS Rivals) the PC just restarts stating that "Asus Power Surge Protection has triggered". So I tried gaming with my friends 1000 VA UPS and it works fine during black outs.

This leaves me with some doubt here.

1. If my PC has restarted during a black out due to a overload on the 600VA UPS then why did'nt the over load alarm trip when there was no black out (overload is overload rite!!) ??

2. Are surge and over load the same ??

3. Have I already damaged my components due to this situation ??

This happens often with Asus Power Surge Protection. You can turn it off in BIOS and it shouldn't happen again.
Now, if UPS is bad, and it creates/transfers surges to its output, then it is better to leave Asus Power Surge Protection on (if it is a real protection, which I doubt, and not some marketing bollocks).

It is also possible that UPS battery is dead, and it can't provide enough power even for a few seconds.

- Overload is when computer starts drawing more power than UPS is capable of providing.

- Surge is when grid voltage spikes.

- Components are probably not damaged (except for maybe varistors/MOVs which serve as overvoltage protection by absorbing energy during surges and transforms it to heat, but that is normal).
