My build is Asus a88xm-plus mobo, 4GB Ram, Radeon hd 6770 and an a8 6600k apu. I built this computer about 3 weeks ago. The psu is a 700 watt I go a year or two ago and I have never had problems with it. Yesterday my gpu DVI port stopped working so I hit the power button to turn it off at boot. The HDMI to DVI cable worked fine as no display appeared. I then was using the computer like normal. Later in the day I rebooted the computer and a message appeared saying about asus power surge protection prevented pc from booting to protect the hardware. I reset the computer again and it worked perfectly. Done a windows updates and thien a message appeared saying Memtest Ok has completed sucessfully press F1 to continue setup. I done that all last night. This morning the pc booted up fine with out any problems what so ever. I don't know if it was a one off or should I consider getting a different power supply? D: I think it only started when I put my radeon 6770 in, I will check if it is connected properly. Also I have read around that its fine and I should just disable the surge protection, since the computer works fine afterwards. ; w ;

"asus power surge protection prevented pc from booting to protect the hardware"

Almost certainly the PSU is the cause of power surges (poor quality or insufficient wattage).
700w is plenty for your system but if it's not a high-quality one it could be on it's way out.

By high-quality I mean Seasonic, Corsair or Antec.

Asus power surge protection is known to be "trigger happy" but I wouldn't disable it until you've fitted a quality PSU brand as listed above.
