Does this alienware 17 have 8GB or 4GB of dedicated memory (880m):http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JXLGE6Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qi

Somewhere along the lines you or me are not misunderstanding something. The laptop has 16GB of DD3 memory. That's memory dedicated to the use of the CPU and optionally to the integrated graphics embedded in the CPU. However this laptop also has an discrete Nvidia 880M GPU that uses GDDR5 memory that should be on the same card as the GPU. How much I can't find out with a quick search, but most graphics cards of that power typically have 2, 3 or maybe 4GB of GDDR5 as well.

Just found the model on ALienware (Dell) site: http://www.alienware.com/Landings/laptops.aspx?&ST=+alienware&dgc=ST&cid=246708&lid=4263804&acd=123098073120560

That says it has 8GB of DDR5. Awesome.

Well, this page near the bottom says that the 880M has 8. Lesser amounts are associated with different graphics processors. That makes sense.

Look towards the bottom under "Performance Graphics"

AMD Radeon™ R9 M290X with 4GB GDDR5
