My expectations for the build are as follows 1. Running autocad and revit software 2. gaming 3. software developing. I have a budget of $1200.00 and am just below that. Let me know what you think about my choices. I have chosen an AMD processor because I get more cores for my money, which I have been told is important for autocad and revit machines. Thanks!

NOTE - I will be getting windows 8.1 as my operating system (as a student I get it free so I didn't include it)

AMD might have more cores for your $$$ but they are kinda weak. The Core i5-4690K has only 4 cores but they are way stronger.

I am a noob when it comes to this stuff, I just thought that with 8 cores it would have to be better than the 4 core. I will take that into consideration! Thanks

18 bucks over budget but it's well worth it.

That info gave a lot of insight, I guess my question is will it still run games I want to play? because gaming is pretty important to me as well as my schoolwork.

Did you follow the link to "How Well Do Workstation Graphics Cards Play Games" ? I think that you are probably GOOD with the card you have if this is a school computer. You aren't YET trying to make a living with this computer. If you were making a living doing 3D renders of items in Autocad I believe a workstation graphics card is warranted.

I found the link as soon as I posted the question, I do some freelance work with autocad and revit. I will look into this further before I make my decision. Thanks!

I like this build that you have posted, there are a few warnings on there about USB 3.0 as well as the length of the video card. Is there a better case you would recommend? I could go a little higher with price.

I would then suggest the Cooler master HAF 912, 922 or a model in NZXT's Phantom line (they cost more than 70$, though)

Here is my version 2.0, let me know what you think!

1, You'd be better off with the Hyper 212 EVO, the Corsair CLLC won't be better.
2, The SSD will barely hold anything.
Everything else looks good to go!

So I plan on just putting my operating system on the SSD for faster start times, and probably for quick access programs. I think it will fit my video card better, I can go a little more for a better case, is there one for 70-99 that you would recommend?

NZXT Phantom? Cooler master HAF 922? It all depends on your taste.

Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case? have you ever seen this one? I love the NZXT case look but the 99.99 white one is not my cup of tea
