Hello,
I have now running 2x120 gb intel on my p9x79 deluxe motherboard on the intel sata controller (6gb) at RAID 0.
I just bought a 512 samsung and connected it to the Marvel controller (my other sata 6gb controller).
When i log in windows i cant see the samsung. Is it because I have the Raid 0 on? Do i have to format? I want my main to be the Samsung and the others for backup. If possible I want others to be one disk somehow.
Pls this is urgent, thanx

New drives have to be partitioned and formatted before they will show up with a drive letter.

Recognize in what sense? Do you see it in the Disk Manager? Ideally, it should be there as a raw drive that you can partition and format. If it's not there, we have to look at other issues, starting with whether or not it's seen in the BIOS. A bit dated, but www.tomshardware.com/forum/265764-32-guide-installed-di...

Oh ok! I used disk manager and i picked simple volume then quick formatted with the suggested settings. Now i can see the drive proper thanx!
So now if i wanna format and make the single drive as my main with windows, can i have the other 2 as one disk somehow? Can i still have em as RAID 0 for example? thanks a lot mate

First of all, to make it your "main drive with windows," you should really do a new installation of windows on that drive - with no other drives attached to the system at the time. Is Windows currently running off your striped SSD set?

You can indeed keep the other two as a stripe set and use them for data while using the new drive as the system drive. I consider RAID0 to be quite risky, and I would do a full backup of the RAID volume before trying any changes to it.

Yes windows atm are on my raid 0 setup. I will risk it again with raid 0 if is possible (as a second data drive). So i just install windows on the new drive and then set up my raid on the other two? whats the process? thanks

Well, the RAID is already set up on the other two, yes? So why re-create it, unless you are trying to guarantee that the RAID set is not bootable? Extra work, yes?
