SSDs in RAID 0

So I originally thought that SSDs in RAID 0 were the epitome of speed and would lower load times in games by a ridiculous amount.

However, now I'm reading that a RAID 0 is barely any improvement over a single SSD. I'm starting a new build primarily for gaming and I was thinking RAID-ing two 850 Pro 128gb SSDs, but is it a noticeable difference over one 256gb?

while raid is and should be faster yes. But raid also disables trim and a lot of things that give single ssd's the speed 'boost'. Disabling those, almost cuts performance in half, which is why a dual raid yields almost identical performance. That said, the random and 4k results should be better with raid. But typically large gains for ssd's in raid, are seen with 3-4 drives. And when that's the case, your also reaching the sata 3 interface saturation level for bandwidth. Which is why everyone is moving to the new pcie ssd interface over sata 3.

Thank you! I'll just stick with 1 256gb. However, whats the deal with the PCIe and m.2 ssds? Obviously the m.2 is a new form factor but what are the gains of PCIe and m.2 over a sata drive??
