Computer unusabely laggy after cleaning GPU radiator.

So, I decided to clean the radiator and its' fans for my liquid-cooled GTX 580. After getting most of the dust off the three components and wiring/screwing them all back into place, I turned my computer back on, only to find that it quickly becomes very laggy.

It is so laggy in fact that games like GTA IV, which normally run at 25-30 FPS now run at around 1 FPS and take 10 or so minutes to start (as opposed to say... 1 minute). The Internet browser is so slow that I'm writing this thread on my laptop, as trying to get from my "What to watch" page to "My subscriptions" page on YouTube has taken 45 minutes so far. I have to force shut down my computer, since I don't even know how long it will take to shut down, which has led to multiple CHKDSK commands being executed with only temporary success.

I've already tried pushing in my graphics card to see if I had accidentally pulled it part-way out, but it's in the PCI slot as far as it will go.

Anyone know what could have happened and how to fix it?

While I would hesitate to call myself an expert, I do know how to build computers from their individual parts, so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing.

Actually, after loading up the other HDD (the main HDD was getting frozen during a CHKDSK), it seems as though the problem isn't with the GPU at all, but rather the HDD. I must have moved the computer a bit too hard in one direction while I was moving it for cleaning and did something to the HDD.

I'd like to know how I managed to damage an HDD such that it still reads/writes, but does it at a very slowed rate. It has always been to the best of my knowledge that an HDD tends to only ever fail quickly and completely, never having a slow death.
