I'm just wondering will a CoolerMaster TX3 work any better at cooling the i7 4790k, than the stock cooler will?

It will cool better than the stock cooler - you'll probably see 6-8C difference. If you plan to overclock though I recommend something a little more robust like a Hyper 212 EVO or better.

yes, most any after-market coolers will work better than a stock cooler for a CPU.

It DEFINITELY will cool better as the stock HSF is only enough when you don't OC. The CM Hyper 212 EVO would cool it better than the TX3, though.

I'd rather go with a better cooler like EVO 212, which'll allow some good OCing for the price. TX3 will be marginally better than stock, but not recommended for serious OCing. Nothing like getting a Noctua D14 though, quiet and extremely powerful, will grace any good CPU. And you can do wonders on i7 with D14. EVO 212 will be my preferred choice for budget cooler, avoid TX3, not worth getting if you're planning to get an af cooler for that CPU.

I actually already own the TX3 i'm just deciding if its worth it to rip it off my current build

If you've already got it, it can't hurt to try it out and see if you can hit your clock and temp targets using it. I wouldn't try 4.4 or higher without my finger sitting on the eject button, though :)

^Exactly, if you own it, then definately worth a try, if you wish to buy one, then no TX3 can't compete with EVO.
