Hey,

I've been having this problem with my computer, whenever I restart my computer (Start>Restart) it logs me off, and passes the windows is shutting down screen and once its at the point where it should turn off, instead it goes to a BSOD with mainly the error being "BAD POOL HEADER" and sometimes "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" . This ONLY happens when restarting the computer, I do not encounter this BSOD any other time. I'm running Windows XP SP2. Do you think it's because my windows is SP2 and not SP3? If so, How do I go about upgrading to SP3?

Thanks!

Either get Linux, or update to Windows 7/8. This happened to me on Windows 7, minus the "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" but I still got "BAD POOL HEADER." Detach any new hardware, go into safe mode, and uninstall any new drivers you installed. If you "havent touched a thing" then reinstall Windows, as that was my solution.

Hi,

Well I should have specified, It's not actually my computer, It's my friends computer and I'm just trying to help him out but don't want to lose too much time, He doesn't want Windows 7/8 (not that the PC could run anything higher than XP anyways) - I did a fresh reinstall of the computer yesterday and after a successful install after formatting I am still getting the same error. I guess this means that it's hardware related?

Thanks

Or it may be a driver issue, have you installed any after a reinstall?

Hello,

I did not install any drivers upon installation, once the re-install was complete I tried rebooting right away and got the same BSOD.

Thanks
