Newbie needs help ssd & hdd??

hello im now purchasing the bellow could you tell me what is a ssd & hdd (do you need both? do you install OS to ssd and games/apps to hdd??)

My rig ~

•Microsoft Windows 8.1 64bit

•1 x Samsung DVD-RW - Blu Ray ROM Optical Drive

•2x Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 Ti - SLI Graphics Cards
•Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 Motherboard

Anyways, a SSD drive is a fast hardrive, where OS and programs (optional) should be installed for faster boot. HDD are conventional hardrives with bulk storage capacity for data.

For a high end build like yours, 120 GB Samsung EVO + 2TB Seagate Barracuda/ WD Black is a must.

You may want to go with 250GB SSD to be able to store more programs/ games on SSD.

The SSD is ideally the C drive in most modern rigs.

Your going to be dropping a lot of money for the above computer so I recommend getting a 480 or 512GB SSD along with a 1TB or larger conventional HDD.

You will want to install the OS and any other programs you want to run really quick on the SSD and leave the HDD for file storage like pictures, video, etc...

Take a look at the crucial mx100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148821&cm_re=mx100-_-20-148-821-_-Product it's large enough that you will not have to worry about offloading any games to the slower HDD but it is at a very good price point.

But like mentioned above I wouldn't go any lower than 120GB but I recommend 256GB and above.

Well 1st, SSD stands for solid state drive. It recovers data WAY faster than HDD (which stands for Hard disk drive). SSD's have higher cost/capacity prices. Therefor the common option is to get a low capacity SSD for operating system (such as windows 7 or 8.1) and store games, photos, music and movies into a much higher capacity hard drive.

That being said, I'd suggest you to buy at least a 256Gb SSD if you plan on putting OS and games on it, because it fills faster than we may think.
