Okey, I know this is really a common problem to a lot of people, but still i cant find any solution to it.
My notebook is Asus K55VM and rocking a Nvidia GT 630M 2GB GPU. After installing Win 8.1 and many different possible drivers, it seems I still cant configure my laptop to use the dedicated GPU and uses the integrated one instead. From where I know? Because even if i force it to use the Nvidia, when I play games the tempreture of my CPU reaches 90+ degrees Celsius. I know that the problem with the switchable graphics are common but if someone knows a good workaround and solution i will be very thankfull.

P.S when i run dxdiag it does show only the integrated GPU. My dad has a notebook with a similar configuration with two GPUs but when he runs dxdiag it shows both.....

Of course that I have tried..... That was the first thing, but then when i have noticed that my computer even doesnt show it in the advanced settings nor in dxdiag.

In my opinion, the card is functioning but not properly, due to poor installed drivers. My dad had this problem with an AMD gpu and after trying 1000 times with different drivers on Win 8.1 he finally managed to get his GPU shown on the advanced settings and working properly.

I am really disappointed from Microsoft and Nvidia for not optimizing their hardware and software when it comes to switchable graphichs. Its like i am not using my laptop on its full potential at all. Everytime when i try to run a game, it lasts 5-10 min or so and then shuts down due to high temperatures.

What's your laptops model name?

I also had the same high temp problem with my laptop, I got a cooling pad for my laptop and that solved that issue.
