I'll just add to stay away from the corsair CX series power supplies as well. They are 100% right about the TR2 series as well. They are junk most of the time.

It always baffles me how thermaltake can have such great high end units, but such garbage budget ones. I still have an old Thermaltake Toughpower in my closet that is serving as my backup unit, and that unit is about 10 years old now. I guess Corsair are following suit with their CX series though as well.

because they are a business and offer PSU at various price points as do other brands such as CM, Antec, and Corsair. Some companies just do a better job on the low end (Antec) then others.

I understand that, but I don't like it. Some people believe that Corsair branded power supplies are top notch units, so they will buy a CX series thinking they are getting great quality. Not only that but a lot of people will recommend them expecting a high level of quality since it's a Corsair. Same thing with thermaltake, but it has had the opposite effect on them. Most people won't even recommend Thermaltake units anymore at all because of their cheap POS series units, lol. Once upon a time they were near the top of the food chain when it came to power supplies. Given time the same could happen to Corsair as well. Look at the XFX(Seasonic) units that are on the market. They have pretty much rendered the CX and TX units useless and pointless IMO and now everyone is recommending them, and so they should.

PS: I hate the way companies market stuff now. These units were meant to target people that don't know much about computers and are just looking for certain brands IMO. Well that and low power budget/office PC's, lol. Thank god I like to research things a lot before I buy I guess, lol. :p

the CX are not as bad as some people think (they actually got good reviews at both jonny gurur and hardware secrets among other sites). The units serve a purpose and are fine for builds that simply don't need high power draw. Will the CX last as long as the TX, HX, AX, series? Of course not but it's not built to. Remember a lot of these units get sold in markets outside of North America & Western Europe were the price difference between a solid PSU and a great PSU can be a considerable financial burden. Not everyone needs an AX760i to run their i3 + AMD 7770 build.

As for brands, I could care less. PSU, RAM, cases, all-in one water coolers, after market fans, the vast majority of those are made by companies that are not on the retail box.

Low quality components, they have been known to fry systems when they fail and they have a high failure rate.
They are ranked a tier 5 unit.

The CX series did review well. There main issue is poor quality secondary capacitors. Out of the box they run well(why they reviewed well) but after some time the capacitors degrade and the problems begin. I know from experience i used 5 of them in budget oriented builds and 4 failed around the 1 yr mark with stability issues and/or shutdown problems(none of the system would have been drawing more than 60% of the units rated wattage at full load). But even with that experience I would buy a CX over a TR2, atleast i haven't heard of a CX frying a system.
