I have an Antec One case which has the stock rear and top fans but an additional front fan. I'm considering the purchase of a bottom fan along with some filters I ordered but I was wondering if it is necessary to have the bottom fan? With two out vs one in, I would think that there would be some fan-free airflow through the holes.. Do you think that the bottom fan would be necessary? (Want to avoid side, too annoying to remove side panel that way)

More about : fans yay nay

Bottom fan won't really help unless you have lots of hot air trapped in case, maybe have one at the top as hot air rises, so having a fan at the bttom for exhaust won't work, neither will a intake imo as the space underneath isn't alot, so get one fan for top as exhaust

Fans are inexpensive enough (such as the Corsair SP120 PWM Quiet Edition fans) that you could throw one in the bottom. Make sure that you have set as an intake. It can help push some of the hot air towards the back and top of the case where it can be exhausted.

This case has fan opening at the front, top, side and rear of the case - total of 4. Fundamentally this has a solid traditional level of airflow.

If you were to add a fan on the bottom you would need to raise the case about an inch or two to allow sufficient flow of air to be pulled in or pushed out.

I would not reccomend adding more fans - as this looks to be a good airflow case as it is.

IF you really want to go nuts - consider adding a very large fan on the side - possibly a 200mm fan for intake. You would need to modify the side of the case - and it would likely look a bit crappy.

Thanks a lot, I think I'll put in the filters then see about the fan..

Ah. I see. Maybe I won't add a fan after all..

Thanks everyone, for some reason one of the posts was selected as the solution before I even saw them. (wtf) Everyone's reply has helped greatly.

If you want I can unselect for you, though you did select it yourself, but you can unselect also

Yeah, that would be great. Embarassingly I can't seem to get used to the different interfaces on all these forums...

That's fine, takes a while to get used too, still, having a fan at the bottom is useless since hot air rises, so you can't exhaust very well, and the space below case is not a lot of space for air to get to, so 1 back, and 1 top for exhaust, 2 front for intake

Well the issue now is that this case doesn't support two intake fans.. (sigh) but I guess I'll find a way to do it somehow..

Where are the fan ports in your case?

Well, I accidentally chose your answer as the best solution.. (GRRRRR).. Yeah, er, if you could unselect it as you did last time, that would be great..

About the case, there's one at the front near the bottom, one at the bottom, one on the side, one on the top close to the back, and one rear fan at near the top..

Have all top and back fans as exhaust, rest as intake

Well, I think that removing the side panel when there's a fan attached could be a bit annoying.. Because I would have to detach the cable first.. I think I'll just add a bottom fan..

Back to the airflow and a comment on dust.

If you add a fan on the bottom - you will need to raise this an inch or so above the surface it is on to allow good airflow and usefullness of the bottom fan.

On dust - consider placing your case off the floor and onto a table or such. This is a good idea for most all PCs to avoid the dust and crap that is kicked up when we walk around (stays about a foot or so from the floor). It is especially good thinking if you have a bottom mount fan.

Good Luck.

You always want positive airflow in a case. Usually two intake in the front, and one exhaust in the back, minimum. I question the airflow of a case with more exhaust than intake...

I would say yes, install the bottom fan as and intake fan - a higher static pressure fan would be best.

In mechanical engineering, having a positive pressure is important to circulate oxygen etc. I like to think of my computer case a building, because sometimes I live in it (metaphorically speaking, of course ;)  )

It is currently on top of my desk, but still gets a bit of dust there.. Also there are these rubber feet that lis\ft the case off the table by a bit over half an inch.. Is it really necessary to have an inch below?

It's probably fine. See if it sounds like the fan is straining when you put it on.

Yeah, I'll do that. Besides, I will be paranoid and therefore be massively concerned about it..
