Is my PSU being stressed to the point where my parts may die?

Here's my list of parts:

Corsair CX500 Builder Series PSU
MSI Z97S SLI PLUS Motherboard
Intel i7-4790k CPU @4.0ghz (Stock clock speed)
NVIDIA 780ti Zotac OC @941 MHz (base) 1006 MHz (boost) (Both stock clock speeds)
NZXT Kraken x41
4x4gb Avexir MPOWER series RAM
A-Data Premier Pro SP600 256gb SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD
3 140mm fans (One LED, one is on the Kraken x41)
3 120mm fans
NZXT Phantom 410 case

I was asking around on a forum about how my main menu in one of my games wasn't working and some people told me that my 500W PSU isn't enough to power my system and I'm at risk for serious damage to my CPU and GPU. However, I went on to a site where you pick all of your parts and it tells you your total wattage under 90% load and it said my computer would consume 473W. In addition, PCPartPicker says that my computer will consume 476W. Somebody on that forum also directed me to the official NVIDIA 780ti page where it says that the 780ti requires a system with 600w of power. I haven't noticed anything bad happening so far, but should I go spend the money to get a bigger, better PSU and should I stop playing games on it until then?

the CX has the proper protection to prevent serious damage but I would invest in a better PSU

You do want a 600W PSU, the part picker and power calculators are theoretical consumption rates, the reality is 2 identical components will have slightly different power req. You also have a K series CPU so I assume you will want to overclock it (its a waste if you dont) which will bump up the total power consumption. Running PSU at near capacity is a bad idea, they burn out a lot faster.

Okay, I understand. I do want to overclock my processor, but the power consumption was what I was worried about.

Would you consider it extremely urgent to get a new PSU or would my computer be safe playing some games for a while?

You should be fine for now, but I would but something sooner than later, running PSU's at high loads tends to damage them quickly reducing the life span and maximum power output.

Better buy a 700W PSU, few extra power won't do harm. I'd do it fast, even tho the parts and psu have locks and protections.
