I'm looking to buy a desktop PC that can run 3D modeling programs well and handle some gaming.

I've been searching for months on end for a desktop PC that will handle pretty much any 3D solid modeling program (SolidWorks, Mastercam, AutoCAD, etc.) along with some gaming. I've heard that in order to run 3D modeling programs well, you need a "Quadro"-type graphics card, and I looked one up once, and it was well over $1000... so what I'm asking is, what desktop PC will handle 3D solid modeling programs without issue and also take on some gaming, all for maybe under $1300 or even $1000? I've just started at a tech college, and am going for Mechanical Design Technology, so I'd like a computer that really helps me out with that stuff.

Thanks!

Well....not necessarily ..... Depends on what 3D you talking about.

AutoCAD 3D works better of GeForce cards than on quaddro, so does Maya. Solidworks refer quaddro

Gaming cards make excellent or acceptable workstation cards as you can see above.

Workstation cards do not make very good gaming cards.

In an older article here on Tom's there was a chart that showed that the lowest-end Quadro 2000 (not even the K2000) outperformed everything except the highest end gaming cards for workstation tasks.

Solidworks is also likely to complain if you use an unsupported card.

If you can, I'd wait for the Quadro K2200 to ship.
