My laptop will no longer recognize my external monitor. I have reloaded the lenovo drivers, updated the intel drivers and still nothing. it won't recognize the monitor with HDMI or VGA ports. Its making me crazy!

Go into the Display Control Panel and then in Screen Resolution. Make sure your external monitor is hooked up and then under Display see if it shows anything else.

So you're saying in the area I told you that while connected to the TV it's not giving you any option except the default display, correct?

If not then it's either the cable, port on the tv, or the port on the laptop. Port on the tv and cable is easy to test as you just simply plug in another device to that HDMI. DVD player or cable box or Blu-Ray player or anything that has a HDMI port.

Thanks but the monitor is brand new and i tested it on my other laptop and its fine. The HDMI and VGA ports on the laptop were working fine two weeks ago prior to the 8.1 update. Somehow the update has disabled the ports. I have tried the fixes on the lenovo site as well as the intel graphics driver site. The ports are being recognized by the computer becuase when I plug in the monitor to the laptop (VGA,USB or HDMI) the laptop "chirps" signalling something new has been connected. But when you go the display section and try to detect or see the second monitor, it won't recognize anything.

Hmm. Have you tried a earlier restore point? Since you think the problem was from a update you might try a restore point. If you're laptop is still under warranty I would give them a call.
