Right now the 4670K is £160

the 4690K is £172

is the 4690K worth the extra £12? I'm wanting to overclock it, to a minimum of around 4.2Ghz with a Z97P D3 chipset.

Also right now the CM Hyper 212 EVO and the 412s Silent cost the same (aroudn £25) for the same price which is better?

the 4690K is the better choice not only dose it run faster out of the box, it runs cooler haswell is known for being hot. since your overclocking its the better choice.

I like the cm hyper evo 212 myself, just use two high static pressure pwm fans.

Never used the 412 silent but everyone I know that owns a 212 is happy with them.

Well the 4690k is .1ghz faster and offers improved heat dissipation keeping it slightly cooler during overclocking. If you only want to overclock to 4.2ghz both chips should do that quite easily without very high temps. If you plan on overclocking higher the 4690k will benefit you more.

4.5 would be nice but 4.2 is the target, I'm on quite a strict budget as I don't earn alot, my original plan would an i5 4440 with a stock cooler and no OCing, so I'm already pushing the boundaries with the 4670K.

Big step up? You talk as if it's like going from an i3 to an i5.....

Even computer Shopper magazine said after all the tests they did, the difference wasn't substantial.

Put it liek this, were I not overclocking, I would just buy a 4440...it's £40 cheaper...

I'm aware CPUboss isn't the best and if I had a digital from the computer shoppers magazine I would show you, However my point was if not overclocking the step up in performance isn't a "big step up".

However I will be overclocking

Well if overclocking the new Devil's Canyon TIM makes this a no brainer (4690k).

As for the 4440 vs 4690 matter...you, or shoppermagazine, don't have to call it a "big" step up, because i don't know what your school of thought considers "big". But you have to admit its certainly considerable. Its over 25% better in single thread and 17% better overall. That aint a small step (in my opinon).

Both chips are user submitted baseline scores on Passmark (full) 8.0, on the same motherboard. Both at stock base/turbo. No theoretical benchmarks like most online compare sites use that dont always reflect real world performance.

Hey, since you mentioned the 212 Evo and are on a budget you might want to take a look at this cooler.

If you wandered why would I suggest it take a look at its performance in compare with the Evo whit an Intel Core i7-4770K overclocked to 4.2 GHz in both idle and in wprime stress test.

Why would you pay twice for the EVO if you can get same or even better performance with the Aidos?
