N.B. I don't want this to turn in to an, "is RAID 0 worth it" debate etc etc.

So I just setup a new RAID 0 array with two 500GB Samsung 840 Evo's and I think they may be under-performing? Examining articles on www.tweaktown.com, their testing of the 500GB model on it's own (using Anvil Storage Utilities) posted a score of around 5,000. Meanwhile, their 840 Evo RAID 0 setup posted a score of around 10,000.

Then there's my testing, which is giving me a score of about 6,500-7,000.

Does anyone know what could be causing this lower performance?

You can call Samsung .... but they will tell you they don't recommend or support using RAID 0 on their drives..... for one, none of the Samsung utilities work. At least that's the answer I got back in November. I started out with RAID ) on the SSDs and RAID 1 on the SSDs and after 2 months or disappointment and frustration broke both arrays.

Hmm, so you think it may just be more beneficial to try trade in these two 500GB 840's I have for a single 1TB drive?

Yeah, I was contemplating that as a solution. Now that I have the drives, it seems a bit pointless to try and swap them out. Do you think I'll see a decent enough performance boost from breaking the RAID array and using the two drives individually? Do you think it's worth doing just to avoid the decreased redundancy etc?

How will you be determining this performance boost ?

I have two laptops in the office. Using a stopwatch the one with the OS on a Samsung Pro SSD boots in 15.6 seconds ..... the one with the 2 TB SSHD boots in 16.5 seconds. Without the stop watch, I can't tell them apart.

If the goal is to get better benchmark scores, I'd expect you will see a performance difference. If you're asking about will YOU perceive a difference, I'd say no.
