first is my specs. gigabyte mobo. amd phenom II x4 955 3.2ghz processor. 20gb ddr3 1866 ram. corsair tx850w psu. geforce gtx770 4gb vid card.

my computer is randombly shutting off. i say randomly bc it happens in games. or out of games. sometimes it doesnt do it at all for days. and sometimes its every 5 minutes. neither my gpu or cpu are running hot. both running at max around 50-55 degrees C. the vid card is only a month old and the psu was used wheni installed it. other then that the rest of the machine has been built for around 3 years. nothin has been changed except the psu and gpu. when i look in eventvwr.msc it just says unexpected shutdown. what could make it shut off randomly, no blue screen, it just turns off for a couple seconds then starts back up. if u need any other info i will post it. all drivers are up to date and its a fresh install of windows. thanks in advance for any help.

If it turns off without shutting down completely then I would assume it's either:

A: Overheating component, but your temps seem fine
B: Check your Usb slots and things that are plugged in, as USBs can short causing shut down.
C: My personal opinion is your PSU needs replacing but that's just a hunch I have :p

So just unplug anything that isn't essential and test that, also some extension cables can cause drops in power, check inside case for shorts, Unplug all ram except one. Just try stuff like that and let me know how it goes, the more detail the better.

Good luck and let me know if you need anything else.

only thing that is plugged in is my mouse reciever and the jbl pebbles speakers. it is on an extension cable but has been for over a year now and the problem just started. it DOES shut down completely then turns back on after a couple seconds. it turns off and starts as if i unplugged it from the wall (gives the start windows in safe mode warning when it boots back up) im lookin at new power supplies on amazon. can u recommend any. i was lookin at
http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-V750-Modular-CrossF...
is this a good psu and will it provide sufficient power? right now its runnin at 41C core temp and 41C gpu temp. it just rebooted from another shutdown. the tjmax is 79 for my cpu so i dont think its an overheating issue either. is there a way to trouble shoot the psu without actually using another psu? it would be nice to troubleshoot it without having to buy a new one. i just dont know how to tell if its a short in the psu
ive also noticed that most of the posts with the same problem as mine seem to be using a gtx card and gigabyte mobo. could it be compatibility issues between the 2?

Well I couldn't recommend a specific Model of PSU but Seasonic and Corsair are great companies. Just make sure it's high enough Watts. If you buy from amazon you can just return it if it doesn't fix the problem, they even supply postage etc so I wouldn't worry about that.

Regarding the PSU testing, that would require some testing equipment that is quite expensive.

Your temps seems fine, but you bring up an interesting point about MOBO compatibility with GTX, How long have you had your new Card for before it started doing this? Try resetting you bios to default settings as well.

Well if you ordered the parts through amazon or another respected retailer then you have nothing to lose as the parts are covered even if you decide you dont want them, Amazon even refund you within an Hour, you just have to make sure you get it back to them in 30 days.
Let us know what happens :)  Good Luck
