I just recently built a new Gaming Rig, with the following specs:

Ultra Full Tower Case
HP ATX Motherboard
Intel Core i7-4770k
12 GB Samsung RAM
160 GB HDD (temporary, came out of my old desktop)
Planning to install a Radeon R9 280 Video Card once it comes in mail.
650W Ultra LSP Power Supply

Computer was working fine. I was having issues with the drive getting detected, and I had to restart the computer a few times to continue to enter into the boot menu by pressing the reset button on my case. Eventually, I shut it down with the power switch on the back, opened it up, switched out a SATA cable, flipped the switch on the PSU to enable power, pressed the power button, and nothing. Zero signs of life. There are no lights on my motherboard to see if there is power getting to it, but even when I hit the power button, nothing comes to life. Not even the fans.

What's your opinion? I think it's the PSU (I read up on how Ultra LSP PSUs are not the greatest choice for a desktop...of course, after I bought and installed it), so I was thinking of swapping it out tomorrow for a different one at the store, but I wanted some opinions before I go ahead and do it.

Thanks!

You should build your pc outside the case first and see if everything works.
From what i can tell its deffinetly the motherboard because even if you had faulty ram your pc would still boot up.
I assume it doesnt work and you are not getting any signal throught the built in graphics. There is no way to check if the motherboard works besides swap a working one. I suggest you connect an old motherboard if you have one and check if it works. If you dont have one you can just go to that shop and try to boot it up and it should work. If it doesnt which is very very unlikely then you can return it but i see nothing else that could be faulty exept the motherboard unless you ESD the cpu or motherboard.

My apologies, I meant it came from an HP Envy desktop, same with the i7. I don't know the exact brand of the mobo, but I'm planning on taking the PSU back to the store tomorrow and seeing where that takes me. I don't have another way of telling which is it that failed, that's why I wanted opinions :)

So an update..

I went back to store to get the power supply tested, and it failed their tests like I had thought. Picked up a Corsair CX750 (they didnt have much selection).

So I get home, plug everything back in and hit the power button...

And nothing. Exact same symptoms as before.

Decided to test this PSU in my 13 year old desktop, and it powered on fine. So my guess, it'd be the motherboard then? Ive read it could be the CPU, but I hope it isnt..

Okay, so I managed to get it working again! For anyone who needs this as a reference:

- Took all peripheral connections off motherboard, and also took RAM, CPU, basically everything one by one until I found the issue. None of those things worked. I thought I was hopeless until I took the advice of Best Answer. I took the Motherboard out, and connected the PSU and CPU, and voila! I heard the beeps!! Its alive!
Put everything back together bit by bit, to make sure there wasnt a shortage anywhere, and now it is working without issue. So at the end of the day, it turned out to be a fluke thing (thank god).

Thanks guys for all of the input! I appreciate it! :)
