I tried installing a new bios driver as perscribed to update to windows 8.1, I've been told this was a bad idea but I did it without knowing. After I started everything froze so I restarted like the idiot I am and now when I try to start the computer up it goes to black screen. Is there a way to re flash the bios from this?

As far as I know Windows doesn't suggest Bios Updates. That's from the mobo company only.

Try resetting the bios. Unplug the comp and to be sure remove all devices plugged into USB ports, etc too. Then remove the MB battery for 10 to 15 mins.

Put everything back together and see if you can boot into BIOS.

If you cannot boot into BIOS still, you will probably have to contact the manufacturer.

if it an asus motherboard see if it has the usb flashback port. if it does you can reflash the bios with a usb stick and backup power.

if it not an asus mb with the usb flashback. if the bios is still working to a point you can try putting the newest bios file unzipped on a usb stick and plug it in and power on the mb. some mb will try in a bios flash failure will try and recover from a usb or cd rom flash disk.

You guys are assuming that he's talking about the bios and I think it's not as a OS doesn't tell you that you need to flash your bios nor does it do the flash.

Well, he said that he flashed his bios and was looking for a way to re-flash the bios with a bricked comp.

And as I said. OS'es don't offer bios updates.

Obviously, a BIOS update was needed for that MB to be able to support win8.....

Ok cause it sounded like you was saying you did this thru Windows which doesn't happen. Yea do the battery thing like they said and if that doesn't work and if you're still under warranty then contact HP.
