I want to build a new gaming pc to replace my old one which is core2duo, old gigabyte motherboard i cant remember and also gigabyte gt9600. This is my crucial part:

cpu - i5 4690k / i7 4790k
gpu - gtx780ti either from asus or gigabyte
mobo - maximus vii hero or vii formula or gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK Black Edition
psu - corsair AX860

I like to keep my setup for at most 7 years. The most i will do is doing SLI. Here is the thing, i need help with cpu, i5 or i7? Mostly i do gaming and sometimes, like 15% of time will do autoCAD, AdamsView for engineering stuff. And for mobo, my experience with gigabyte is great, since the first time i use both gigabyte gpu and mobo, not a single problem occur, but i would like to try asus rog for my new rig. Any opinion is appreciated.

A Core i7-4790K will do fine for the 780 ti.

Don't go for the formula, unless you want extreme overclockability. The ranger will do just fine as well, but the Gigabyte Black edition UD5H is a great option as well.

860w is a bit overkill. I would lower down to 750w. An EVGA G2 750w is a cheaper alternative and is built to the same standard.

I think you should pick the i7; since you will be doing Autocad
Either gpu is good
I would with the gigabyte mobo
Your PSU choice is great

What about vii Hero? At my place here the price is almost the same with gigabyte black edition. Plus I have a friend who is working in Asus Centre, any faulty happen will be easier to deal with..any advice? I chose AX860 so that maybe in next or two years if I have a good deal, i might do SLI or is AX860 still overkill even after doing SLI?thank you for your opinion:)

If you are doing SLi, I would recommend 1000 watts. The Corsair HX1000i was recently released so go for that.

Also, the Hero is a great board also. Best balance of price and overclockability.

Or if you want to future proof your build with enough power.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 1600W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($349.99 @ NCIX)
Total: $349.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

9.9 out of 10 from jonnyguru:

Summary

EVGA has clearly taken lessons learned from the somewhat dismal reception of the NEX1500 and made themselves some tasty lemonaid. The G2 1600 watt unit might be missing the software interface of that older beast, but it makes up for it big time. Almost every facet of performance sees this unit wiping the floor with the NEX1500. Ripple? No anomalies to speak of. Voltage regulation? Out of this world. Efficiency? Promise Gold, actually give Platinum. This thing got so close in performance to Corsair's AX1500i that I'm not sure I'd buy one over this unit even if I won the lottery tomorrow and wanted the absolute best. I mean, read this page again... we were one wiring and connector issue away from a perfect total score. That has only happened twice - once to Corsair, and once to EVGA.

If you are EVGA's competition and somehow haven't found a way to match the awesomeness coming out of the Super Flower factory recently, wake up. These guys are going right for your throats.

The Good:

beyond excellent voltage stability
beyond excellent ripple suppression
did Platinum efficiency, somehow
fully modular
ten year warranty

The Bad:

huuuuuuuuuuuuuge - second longest unit I can remember testing

The Mediocre:

had a random minor issue with the PSU side ATX cable connectors holding a pin socket in

Another thing guys, my current psu is Corsair GS600W 80+Bronze, provided that i only use single gtx 780ti and i7 4790k..will that be enough and should I stick to that? I'm not overclocking at the moment(will do in the future but definitely no this time)..my plan is when i want to do SLI only then i upgrade my psu as well(purchase another gpu and psu together), that way i can save up for a while..any idea?
