hey guys, so i just got my new build but i didn't know about the efficiency thing ( talking about power supplies) till i already picked the pc, so my question is : is bronze power supplies really that bad? mine is SeaSonic M12II Bronze 850W 80 PLUS and here's my full spec:
mobo: asus sabertooth x 79
cpu : intel 4930k
gpu: gigabyte gtx 780 oc
case: cm storm trooper
cooling: thermaltake water extreme 3.0
power supply : SeaSonic M12II Bronze 850W 80 PLUS
so i don't care about electric bills all i care about is the quality of the power supply itself, so can it live enough ( like 3 or 4 years) or it will be damaged after a while?

More about : bronze power supplies bad

That is a real nice PSU. It has 70 amps on the 12v rail which is a ton. For $109 and being full modular it is good. It has a 5 year warranty. Good choice. Here is what the ratings mean for effiiciency:

The 80 Plus Bronze rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 82% efficiency at 20% load, 85% at 50% load, and 82% at 100% load.
The 80 Plus Silver rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 85% efficiency at 20% load, 88% at 50% load, and 85% at 100% load.
The 80 Plus Gold rating meas that the PSU is rated for at least 87% efficiency at 20% load, 90% at 50% load, and 87% at 100% load.
The 80 Plus Platinum(bet you didn't know there was a Platinum) rating means that the PSU is rated for at least 90% efficiency at 20% load, 92% at 50% load, and 89% at 100% load

The power supply you have chose is an outstanding choice and is more than sufficient \ efficient to run your build.

It should last you 3 to 4 years no problem.

Your choice was perfect , no worries.

so it's all about efficiency ? nothing related to the quality of the components? i heard that if u r planning to use ur pc most of the day ( as a designer i might do that) then a bronze power supply may not be that reliable cos of its components quality... so i that true ?

The effectiveness and longetivity of a power supply is based on load or strain put on it. If you have a 500 watt psu and pull 440 watts all the time, the psu wont last as long if you only pull like 100 watts. Every psu has a life expectancy. Seasonic gives you a 5 year warranty, which means to me they support and bevlieve their product will last for atleast 5 years

Efficiency rating is only one aspect of a PSU, and is of more concern with very high wattage builds for saving some energy.

You should be concerned with other aspects like ripple supression, line regulation, hold up times, and safety features such as overcurrent protection, overheating protection, ect. Also be concerned with the quality of the components (capacitors and ICs used) and the construction quality (soldering, insulation/heat shrink).

Seasonic does not take short cuts in manufacturing. You will get exactly what they advertise.
