Hi guys. So I recently got enough money to either build a desktop pc or buy a laptop. According to my dad, a laptop would be "better" for highschool. Will I really NEED a laptop for highschool? Or should I just build a pretty awesome gaming pc? If I get a laptop it would be the lenov y50 but I'm not sure if it will be able to run next gen games such as AC Unity or the Witcher 3. If the laptop can run those games then I will probably getting the laptop but if it can't I'll build a pc instead. So do I really need a laptop? And will the y50 be able to run those games at 1080p medium settings? Sorry for the long question but I really need to make a decision before school starts.

The laptop should be able to play those games, but at much lower settings than a similarly priced desktop.

Its up to you and your parents to decide if you need a laptop for high school. Where I went to school, not only did we not need them but it wasn't allowed to bring them to class because they were seen as distractions and easy ways to goof off in class without the teacher noticing. Things might be different now, or at your school.

As for what it can play, I asuume you are talking about the y510p, which has a GTX 750M GPU if I remember right. If so, here are a list of games it has been tested to play and how many FPS it gets.

It can take Watch Dogs on medium, but...

It can take Watch Dogs on medium, but only at a much lower resolution. Chances are most games it won't handle on medium settings at 1080p unless you have the version with SLI.
