GPU Motherboard Problems

Hi everybody,
After a week of trying to get my graphics card to work with my pc, scrounging through various forums looking for answers, setting and resetting the GPU, trying different slots; finally deciding to ask here.

My problem is if I try to run my old GPU my motherboard emits and very loud and continuous beep; its fine with just the integrated graphics.

I checked for a GPU compatibility list, but it doesn't seem to exist (apart from a very short paragraph stating about 10 graphics cards in a brief description on Amazon I believe).

Even when it beeps my pc still boots up like as if everything is normal.

Any clues? Is it just not going to work due to incompatibility, is the integrated graphics interfering... Drivers (haven't installed any, but it shouldn't be beeping regardless)?
I tried removing unnecessary components (e.g. Extra HDDs, USB, Disc Drives), same thing so I don't think it's the PSU.

Everything else is running perfectly.

Rig:
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD7 TH
CPU: Intel i7 4.00GHz 4790k
Ram: 8GB 1,600MHz Corsair DDR3
PSU: 550W Colorsit Gold
HDD: 3 - 2 500GB Seagate + 1 old 180Gb HDD

Cheers to all and any help in advance.
