Near the beginning of this year, I purchased a new router (Asus RT-N56U) to help with my inconsistent speeds. It was quite the pain to set it up such that it would function as the router, rather than just an access point, simply because my ISP implements their own proprietary draconian firmware on the modem router combo (Actiontech V1000H) they sent us. I had to use a few exploits to get bridge mode working, but after that, it worked great. Unfortunately, today, I unintentionally reset my router to factory default settings, which essentially rendered my entire network unusable. After an hour or so of fiddling, I was finally able to get my network back up and running, but I do not feel 100% sure it is indeed in the state that I left it in several months ago.

The major thing is that several months ago, I was able to access the configuration page via the default gateway of the modem router combo, if I plugged my computer directly into it. This would allow me to make sure it was indeed in bridge mode, and to verify everything was set up correctly. However, today, I realized that I am no longer able to access that page. Despite being plugged into the m/r combo, the default gateway will always time out, or give me a page does not exist error. Using the original gateway doesn't work either. Now I would normally ignore this problem since my network is technically up and running, but my speeds seem to be slower than usual, and therefore, I suspect that the combo machine is actually potentially bottlenecking my LAN speeds by handling some of the routing. To be honest, I don't even know if it is possible to have 2 routers working in tandem without some sort of error, but whereas my network should be rated at a maximum of 300mbps, and while using a network adapter rated at 450mbps, I am transferring data from wireless to desktop at a measly 30ish mbps.
