Do prices of ESD bands matter?

How much does a $1 ESD wrist wrap vary from a $5 band or even a $85 strap? My dad wants me to get an ESD band for my first $1500 build but absolutely does not trust me handling such expensive components unprotected. Will the $5 wrap have added protection than the $1 band or is $85 the best choice? I have never purchased a ESD band so I don't know what to get. Thanks!

The purpose of it is to connect you to ground. For that, the cheapest one will work. Only thing to take into consideration it the resistor value. Those bands are supposed to have at least 1 Mohm resistor connected in series (it is inside the case, so you can't see it). In case that some device that is powered from the grid fails in the way that grid voltage (110/220 V) gets in contact with device's case (that is grounded), you don't get electrocuted the through ground (resistor will limit the current through you to a safe value).

I would buy 5 $ one, because 1 $ one will probably have (if it has at all) the cheapest resistor (which may have a braking voltage of less than the 100-200 V). In that case, resistor can short, and cause dangerous current to flow through you. But you really don't need to waste 85 $ on something like this, because there is not much difference at all between that and the 5 $ one.

See here if it has a resistor: http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=41700

I can't seem to open that PDF.
