My ASUS laptop (U56E-BAL7, OS Windows 7, Kaspersky AV) was requesting to restart for Windows updates, but I postponed a couple of times because I was in the process of running a complete scan using my Winzip Utilities Suite. It found in the scan a Trojan and possible Malware/Spyware but I didn't get any details at the time because the scan was still in progress. I walked away for about 15 minutes and when I came back my computer had shut itself down. It was frozen on the ASUS logo screen and would not do anything at all. I have tried:
-Turning off and holding power button for anywhere from 30 sec to several minutes, turned back on to see same screen and it would not boot up
-Removal of AC cord and battery then held power for 30 sec or more to drain cached info and any residual current. Then put battery back on and plugged back in. I turned it on and it was still frozen would not boot up.
-Repeated this process but left battery out and upon start up I tried F2, but my BIOS did not come up, I also tried F8 and F9 and those also did not produce any results. I did the same with all sorts of combinations of cntrl, alt, delete, escape, home, etc all to no avail. No matter what keys are used while powering up I get no result, still just the ASUS logo.
-I unplugged everything, removed battery and took the back panel off then proceeded to check each memory slot and RAM module. Switching the RAM modules places to see if I could boot, no luck.
-I also tried to boot using my Windows 7 installation CD, it would spin up then slow down and eventually stopped. It did not boot, still a frozen screen. And I can't use a rescue CD because I can't get into BIOS to change boot order.
My next step is to remove my CMOS battery to reset BIOS and then see if it will boot. Do you think this will work or does this sound like a hardrive issue. I can remove the hardrive and boot in another PC but would like to try everything else first. Just in case I do have a virus or malware. I would really appreciate any help or suggestions. This is my first time to create a thread, sorry if I made any mistakes!
