Hey guys,

I'm in need of advice and assistance.
Symptoms started about two month ago. It started with BSoD and it happened around 10 times in last two months. I use my computer all the time. I didn't think much of it but I ran the recommended tests to see if I have any hardware failure. I did a test for my RAM and a hard-drive test from EASEUS partition master. No errors were detected. I also opened my computer box and removed the dust, check if all looks ok, if it's overheating and I swapped the places of my ram sticks just in case. No help. My computer is about 5 years old.

Then a week ago my computer started freezing up. No response what so ever and I have to turn it of manually. Also, once after restarting my computer after this freeze up, windows didn't load and all I saw was black screen with a underline cursor flashing in a top corner. This problem disappeared after another restart.

I don't know what to even try to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My configuration is>
4gb RAM
Two hard drives - Maxtor STM3160211AS and WDC WD3200JS-63PDB1
Intel Core2Duo CPU E7200
Graphic Card - GeForce 9600gt 512ram
MSI neo P43 motherboard

Windows was installed 3 years ago.

Lasted hardware introduced is the Maxtor harddrive, about 4 months ago. I also merged all of partitions on my old hdd, this is also a partition where the windows is installed.
I also bought a wacom tablet but never had any problems with it.

I'm using Windows 7, my temperatures are
power 34c
Cpu 45c
Graphic card 50c
Hdd 45c

I'd love to buy a whole new gear but alas no coin.

That's getting a bit too hot. It could be causing your problems.

At 74C it will shut down - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Duo%20E7200%20EU80571PH0613M%20(BX80571E7200%20-%20BXC80571E7200).html. Before that it will start going slower and slower.

Blow out your case to get dust build up out of it - especially fans, filters and coolers. Get rid of any overclock. Increase the cpu fan speed.

See if you can get the cpu temp down to 35C while idling and 50C while gaming.

Do you know wht the BSOD said was the error? Can you get the system to recreate or is it intermittent?
have you had any issues with your computer slowing down? a 3 year old install of windows could be damaged by Viruses.

The most likely cause of issue is damage to your OS, a fresh reinstall would probably fix all of this as well as make your computer run much better.

Thanks, I'll try. Might be tricky since it's already pretty clean.

Do you have any thoughts what could be the problem?

Is there are chance for a software issue?

Just saw this message
The latest BSoD was 5 days ago,
0x0000000a (0x000018800357028a, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff80002ca3d67)
I do use an avast antivirus and it doesn't report anything odd.

Could it be that windows was damaged due to partition manipulation?

OK. Try a System Restore back to before you started having these problems

as well as

It is most likely a software error, and may I ask how frequently do you actually run your antivirus (scan the system). Also what antivirus are you using.

A Bsod can be one of several things, hardware failure, driver failure, OS problem.

Antivirus is a avast free version.
I didn't scan the system in a long time, but it always runs in the background.

I'd say two different causes. Few times it happen by not using the computer for a couple of hours, I moved the mouse (sleep mode is disabled) and it freezes and puts out the BSoD. Other times it happened while using Photoshop. I'm an illustrator and a designer, I use it for my work.

My other now more major symptoms are these freeze ups. In last two days it happened three times, always while browsing the net using mozillla firefox. Computer simply stops working and there is no response.

yes well avast is just like most other programs if you do not use the scanner, the antivirus doesn't do alot of good. I would almost guarantee that if you ran a boot time scan you would find alot of issues.

Another thing AVAST has the ability to be automatically scheduled to run. When I build/refurbish/repair a system I always setup the automatic scheduler, it usually makes peoples systems last much longer before they have to call someone like me again. (by clicking on scan then settings then scheduling it will allow you to setup an automated scanning.)
Depending on usage my normal suggestion would be.
Computer/internet Use per Day (this is a rule of thumb depending on sites visited and such you may need to run more often)
1-2 hours daily 1. quick scan set to - daily(except the day/s full scan runs) 2. full scan - weekly
3-4 hours daily 1. quick scan set to - daily(except the day/s full scan runs) 2. full scan - Twice a week
5-6 hours daily 1. quick scan set to - daily(except the day/s full scan runs) 2. full scan - Every other day
7+ hours daily 1. Every day - Full scan (weekly boot-scan this can not be automated however if you turn it on before you go to bed/work it should be completed by the time you are ready to use it be sure to set the scanner to automatically move infected items to chest or it will wait for you to respond.)

Very well.
I'll clean the computer, speed up the fans, reduce the temp and scan for viruses and see if there is a good outcome. Thanks!

Yeah, that will be my last option.
