With all the new things coming out in 2015 i.e. Windows 9, new GTX 800 series GPU's and new intel CPU's, does it make more sense to wait for these new items or wait to see how the older parts prices will drop?

More about : wait till 2015

The time to buy a computer is when you need it. There will always be new stuff out next year. No matter when you buy it, withing 6 months there will be something new out that will make you wish you had waited.

the same basic question has been asked since pc's came on the market... i personally upgrade about every 3 years to the "next to the latest" technology... wait for stable OS's (SP1).

In 2015 something will be coming out Q2 then Q3 and then Q4 and then 2016. If you are going to wait for a tech you will be waiting forever. Longer you wait better PC you will get vs the one you would have bought.. but that works forever.... So yes and no. If you want to buy PC you use now, buy now. If you can wait till 2015 you will get better PC vs the one you would buy now.. but again if you wait then....

I think the target date for the 28nm Maxwell GPUs is September. X99 and Haswell E are also in September. I don't think anyone is sure when the desktop Broadwell chips will come out. Since Intel just did a Haswell refresh it wouldn't make sense to release it before the holiday season.

Depends on why you are upgrading. Hardware failure: usually immediate.

More performance: Do you have adequate performance now and can wait, or is your system holding you back from doing what you want right now?

Latest tech: Do what many people do, sell and upgrade with every product release (Always losing money, but always the latest and greatest. and selling when the products are still relevant to other people gets the highest prices)

I also go with the every 3 years or so, and I usually salvage hardware from the previous build. My GPUs are pushing 3 or 4 years (GTX580) and I am waiting on Maxwell.
