I am thinking that the Corsair 1000w i PSU may be over kill for this build but I figured I would ask the professionals just in case. I am a second time builder and I haven't kept up with the PC technology trend like I wanted to.

Here is the list of everything that I am throwing into this brand new build. any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

More about : size psu

Don't go with FX 9xxx, they're really power hungry and just can't beat the i7 4790k both in gaming and in rendering.

Also, yes a 1kW Platinum is an overkill if you don't want to do 2 way crossfire (and platinum'll be waste of money). A 620W HCG/ SeaSonic S2II 620/650W/ EVGA SuperNova will be enough to go with i7 and R9 290.

If you want room for future upgrades (CF), then get Antec HCG 900W/ EVGA SuperNova 1kW G2/ SeaSonic 900W+ PSU. Go for the mentioned Corsair 1kW Platinum if you want outmost efficiency and extreme stability on 90%+ load.

32GB RAM for gaming makes no sense, get 16GB and use the leftover money to get R9 290X. Its a different story if you're a developer/ renderer.

About 650w.

What is the purpose of this pc?
A FX-9590 is essentially a factory overclocked FX-8350 at twice the price; a very poor value.

If your purpose is gaming, you would do better with an intel quad.
If your purpose is rendering or other multicore enabled apps, then the FX-8350 is OK, but I would wait for haswell-E

^I agree with every aspect except Haswell E, yes they're gonna be beasts of rendering and multi core computing, but the lowest one will be $400ish and would require new, expensive MoBo and a good DDR4 to compliment it. $800 setup of CPU-MoBo-RAM that is.

Thank you for all the responses I use the machine for true multi tasking which makes the amd 8 core a more solid decision I think. Granted I am no expert. I typically run After effects green screen rendering, movie studio platinum rendering for the gaming video and I am typically recording the game play while both those are running in the background. I also use it for all the various daily tasks which I don't think will have an impact on the decision.

so i drop the cpu to the 8350 amd, dropped the power supply to an corsair rm 1kW 80+ gold (is gold still overkill? I chose the rm for silent running because of recording, and upped the graphics card to a asus 290x). I also changed the hard drive to the intel 240gb ssd for the OS because of stability. I do eventually plan to run ifinity across 3 monitors.

Well that's some really hardcore multi tasking. You might want to try the Xeon line of processors, they're locked, but a quad core 3.4Ghz (turbo to 3.8GHz) will really help you in those tasks, and they'll be running less hot than FX, like the Xeon E3-1240 v3. The i7 is really a good OCer, and will defeat any FX hands down, but is just a bit more costly than FX.

The FX 8 core is nothing short of a myth, its basically 4 modules each containing 2 cores, but each module gets the same resources (and less FPU) so the performance is nothing more than that of quad core. Any quad core OCable i5 or i7 will defeat it, and any 4/6 core Xeon will be a better choice for those tasks IMO.

I might suggest that a i7-4790K running at stock will outperform the most heavily overclocked FX you can buy.

If you want quiet, look at the equivalent performing nvidia cards like the GTX780.
The R9 cards get their performance from being heavily overclocked. That means they take more power and the fans have to work harder to get the advertised performance. Also, some apps can use the CUDA capabilities of nvidia cards. Check your apps for that capability.

Even a GTX780ti only needs a 620w psu. Normally, I would not recommend a gold rated psu; you will never recoup the price premium in electricity savings. But, for quiet operation, gold rating is reasonable. The better efficiency keeps the fan from running under load. I use a Seasonic X750 for just that reason. Seasonic warns you to not be alarmed if you never hear the fan run.

For quiet, buy a top air cooler.

My canned rant on liquid cooling:
------------------------start of rant-------------------
You buy a liquid cooler to be able to extract an extra multiplier or two out of your OC.
How much do you really need?
I do not much like all in one liquid coolers when a good air cooler like a Noctua NH-D15 or phanteks can do the job just as well.
A liquid cooler will be expensive, noisy, less reliable, and will not cool any better
in a well ventilated case.
Liquid cooling is really air cooling, it just puts the heat exchange in a different place.
The orientation of the radiator will cause a problem.
If you orient it to take in cool air from the outside, you will cool the cpu better, but the hot air then circulates inside the case heating up the graphics card and motherboard.
If you orient it to exhaust(which I think is better) , then your cpu cooling will be less effective because it uses pre heated case air.
And... I have read too many tales of woe when a liquid cooler leaks.
google "H100 leak"
-----------------------end of rant--------------------------

I suggest a noctua nh-D15 or phanteks with dual 140mm fans.
Your pc will be quieter, more reliable, and will be cooled equally well

On the ssd, both Intel and Samsung are good. I would pick no other brand.
For the very best performer, look at the Samsung 850 PRO.

Alright here was a separate Intel build with the 4730 4.0ghz haswell chip and fairly comparable in price but if I can crunch the same multi tasking out of this build then I will gladly convert. Thoughts about additions to this build?

I kept the water cooling even though I will probably not need the overclock on this i7, and at this point thw liquid color has a cool red led so that's my want lol. I am keeping with rog connect and the asus mobo just because I love asus and the sabertooth was stupid expensive and for my needs this board should still scream. stuck with the rm 1000 gold cert for silence and finally kept the r9 for a couple of reasons. I am hoping mantle explodes and will become a benefit later, and I should be over heating in the case with the air I am moving + the less heat load from the intel cpu? sound about right?

PS: Do the virtual cores (even though I know its just 2 threads being fed to the same core) essentially equate to a octocore amd? That's kind of the way I'm explaining it to myself even though that is probably a bad metaphor.

Your build seems good. Your case, CPU cooler and all other cooling stuff seems just fine.
Also, AMD can't defeat the OCable i7 in multitasking/ gaming, because of the innumerable times where I explained why:
